Mary Help of Christians Church is the first parish entrusted to the MSFS in Tamilnadu in 1985. It was bifurcated from the parish of Udeyendiram in 1975.Up to 1985, the diocese of Vellore looked after the pastoral needs of this parish. In the year 1985, the Provincial of Visakhapatnam Rev. Fr. Anthony Mookenthotam extended his willingness to send priests to the Diocese of Vellore. The Bishop of Vellore Rt.Rev.Michael Augustine, on account of the good rapport with the MSFS fathers in Bangalore, gladly invited themto his diocese. Fr. Johny Kanjiramparambil came to Vaniyambadi as the pioneer and provided pastoral assistance as the parish priest of Vaniyambadi. The parish had 4 substations, namely Ambur, Kodaiyanchi, Alangayam and Kamarajarpuram, of which the first two were eventually erected as independent parishes, while the last two remain till today as its substations.
The good works of Rev. Fr. George Puraidam are still remembered by the people. He started a farm with milch animals with the intention of supporting the livelihood of the locals. As the old Grotto was destroyed in a lorry accident, a new one was builtby Fr. A. Dharmaraj, the parish priest. This Grotto of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception was blessed by Rt. Rev. Monsignor. A. Nambikairaj, the Administrator of the Diocese of Velloreon 2 September 1993.When Fr.S. Joseph Henry was the parish priest, the new parish church was blessed and consecrated on 14 May 1998, by Rt.Rev.M.Chinnappa sdb, the Bishop of Vellore during the tenure of Rev.Fr.Mani Panthalani as the Provincial of Visakhapatnam. The entire land is about 2 acres and 50 cents. The parish ownsSt. Mary’s Shopping Complex (in Alangayam road) with 9 shops and a Community Hall which were constructed by Fr. D. Robert in 2004 and was later completed by Fr. C. Sebastian Robert. Both these buildings are maintained by the Diocese.
The construction of the compound wall around the cemetery was started by Fr. Alphonse in 2008 and was completed by Fr. M. Sahaya Rajin 2010. The presbytery was renovated in 2008 and later in 2012.This Parish has 130 families, and there are 12 families in Alangayam. There is a church in Alangayam dedicated to Our Lady of Vailankanni.
