The Church of our Lady of Perpetual Help, Nalattinputhur is located in Kovilpatti Taluk of Tuticorin District. This belongs to the Diocese of Palayamkottai. This parish is situated between Kovilpatti and Kalugumalai and lies on the high way of Tirunelveli. It was one of the substations of the parish of St. Joseph’s Church, Kovilpatti which is 6 km away from the parish. On 28 May 2003,Nallattinputhur was made as an independent parish by Rt. Rev. Jude Paulraj, the bishop of the diocese and was entrusted to the Congregation of Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales to take care of the spiritual needs of the people.

The Province appointed Rev. Fr. S. Antony (jr) as the first parish priest. The parish had a very small church and had no presbytery. And so Fr. S. Antony was staying in a rented house for a few months. Later on he built a spacious well-planned Rectory. In the time of Fr.S.Sagaya Wilson a beautiful church was built. A grotto was also built during his period. This parish has got 15 substations namely Aalampatti, Gopalapuram, Kattalangulam, Kalampatti, Kangankulam, Kumareddiarpuram, Kumarapuram, Manthithoppu, Nachiarpuram, Uthupatti, Vanaramutti, Veyulukanthapuram, Padarnthapuli, Salaiputhur and Thonukal. The distance between these villages and the parish is three kilometers.

The total population of this center is 30,809 out of which the Catholics number 1,015.The strength of other Christian Denominationsis 900 and the Hindus number 28,894. Our faithful are mostly influenced by the customs of Hinduism as they live together with them. People of this parish are peace loving. There is no division among themselves. They approach the parish priest to settle their disputes. The main occupation of these people is to work in the match industries as coolie workers. They are economically satisfactory. There is no party and caste spirit among the Christians. They are educated at least to read and write and a small percentage are not educated.

The main ministry is parish ministry. The aim of this mission is to make the faithful to live and grow in their faith. People have simple faith and are regular to the Church and participate actively. All the community activities are centered on the Word of God. They are kept busy and remain connected to the various faith related activities. Faithful are catechized by way of pious groups, catechism, Legion of Mary, etc. Pastoral care and concern is the main aspect of the mission that they may live in communion with each other and grow in Christian faith.
