My dear Confreres,
We are at the end of Lent and in the middle of the Holy Week. We are approaching the Easter in a state of intense remorse for our frailties with our pious acts and prayer. The most important significance of Holy Week is the remembrance of Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
By Passion, our Lord signifies that though he came to love, redeem and liberate us, yet he was misunderstood, betrayed, denied, abandoned, helpless, brutalized and scourged. He endured all these for the salvation of humanity and the creation. As such, he empathizes with the marginalized people of the society.
By Death, our Lord signifies that there can be no greater love than to give one’s life for another. He gave his life as a ransom for many. He suffered death, a death on the cross, considered as a shameful death. He did not die for his sins, but he died for our sins. As such, he sets a perfect example that dying for another is noble and righteous.
By Resurrection, our Lord signifies that passion and death is not in vain or futile. But they bear fruit. He rose again from the death. He defeated death and Satan. As such, He symbolizes new life, new hope, new heaven and new earth.
My dear Confreres, the celebration of Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus cannot go merely as yearly rituals and ceremonies. They must affect our lives positively. They must stir our hearts. The celebration of Holy Week culminating in Resurrection of our Lord needs to have
KIM/ 21 April 2019 profound change in our lives that we re-dedicate ourselves to God and to the mission of the Church. This is what our Patron St. Francis De Sales and our venerable Founder Fr. Peter Mermier did. In the footsteps of our Patron and Founder, let us celebrate the Holly Week and the Easter meaningfully and grow in holiness and serve the humanity. I wish you all a happy Easter!

THOUGHTS FOR REFLECTION AND MEDITATION
1. BIBLE QUOTE
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
(Joshua 1:9)
2. SALESIAN THOUGHT
“Through devotion, your family cares become more peaceful, mutual love between husband and wife becomes more sincere, the service we owe to the prince more faithful, and our work, no matter what it is, becomes more pleasant and agreeable.”
Saint Francis de Sales
3. STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART OF FR. PETER MARIE MERMIER
“Not all crosses are wooden ones. … I shall conclude with the saying of an old priest I knew: Crosses are to be kissed, not bitten. And I add, ‘Kissing them brings healing; they become soft and one learns to love them.”
Letter to Fr. Francis Decompoix, India, April, 1855, (Duval, Mermier, p. 268)
