My Dear Confreres,
Greetings of peace and joy to all of you my dear confreres!
There is always conflict and contradiction between the values of the world and the values of God. Most people tend to follow the values of the world. However as Christians and religious, we are called upon to follow and live by the values of God. When we live in contrast to the values of the world, we face suffering. As such, Holy Father, Pope Francis during the weekly general audience on 28.06.2017, states that Martyrdom, suffering and persecution are part of the gospel. He says, “Persecution is not a contradiction to the gospel, but is part of it: if they persecuted our Master, how can we hope that we will be spared the struggle?”
He also states, “Christians are therefore men and women ‘against the current.”
He further states, “… since the world is marked by sin, manifested in various forms of egoism and injustice, those who follow Christ walk in the opposite direction.” He makes an emphatic statement, “Christians must therefore always find themselves on the ‘other side,’ on the other side of the world, that is chosen by God; not persecutors but persecuted; not arrogant, but gentle; not conmen, but submissive to the truth; not imposters, but honest.”
Let us be people, who live ‘against the current’ and be on the ‘other side’. Let us live by the values of God and not by the values of the world. Let our life and ministry be an example to the people we serve. Let the people experience us that we live ‘against the current’ and be on the ‘other side’.
APOSTOLIC COMMUNITIES OF SOUTHEAST INDIA PROVINCE
Till the last academic year , we had five Apostolic Communities in our province. Due to increase in number, there was a need to make changes. As such, we have six Apostolic Communities for this academic year as stated below:

DIACONATE ORDINATION AT SHILLONG
On 17th June, 2017 was an auspicious day of spiritual event for our 41 Scholastics from Oriens Theological College. On that day at about 5 p.m., they were ordained to the ministry of Diaconate by His Grace, Most. Rev. Dr. Dominic Jala, SDB, the Archbishop of Shillong. The mega spiritual event was held at St. Dominic Savio parish, Shillong. Among the forty one deacons, six deacons were from MSFS Study house, out of which, two belong to the south-east India province namely Dn. Nelson and Dn. Philomin and four belong to the Northeast India province. The diaconate ordination was enriched by the inspiring and encouraging message given by His Grace. A good number of priests and religious, as well as the parents and relatives of the Deacons were present to make this spiritual event more solemn. After the Holy Eucharist, we all came back to our study house, and then we had the felicitation for the newly ordained Deacons, which was followed by a delicious dinner. We congratulate our new deacons, who have come forward to serve the Lord and His people.
