Dear Confreres,

Greetings to you! God is love. This love of God is the good news to the humanity. This Good News of Love is the mission of God. This Good News of Love of God as a mission is manifested in the incarnation, life and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. His mission was to love the humanity and sacrifice his life for them. This mission was further strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit. As such, the Triune God’s mandate is the proclamation of the Good News of love of God and that is the mission of the Church. All the endeavors of the Church are to fulfill this mission. This is also the mission of all the Christians, dioceses, religious orders. As Christians, we are called to be missionaries to live and proclaim the Good News of Love of God to the humanity.

Our congregation is missionary by its very name. This is also the thrust of our venerable founder Fr. Peter Mermier, when he said ‘I want missions’. He was a true missionary par excellence. Referring to the mission of the Church, he states that “… we have the same mission to be fulfilled, the same means to be employed, the same goal to be achieved…” (Letter to Fr. Lavorel, 28th July 1852) He also states that our vocation to be a missionary has one condition. According to him, “… the first condition is to have a lofty idea of this vocation, to value it above everything, considering all therest, all other occupations as nothing, as mud, as dung, meditating and contemplating Jesus Christ, the sovereign missionary …” (Letter to Fr. Lavorel, 28th July 1852). Our primary duty is to be missionaries to proclaim the Good News of love of God to the humanity. As stated by our founder, all other occupations are to be considered as nothing.

As such, taking into account the Year of St Joseph, the Year of Family, the Devotion to Holy Family, and the directive of the General Chapter XX, to initiate more ministries directed to families, Rev.Fr. Abraham Vettuvelil, our Superior General has formally declared, the year 2021-2022 as the Year of Missionin our Congregation, starting from Pentecost Sunday, May 23, 2021 and concluding on Divine MercySunday, April 24, 2022. We have begun our Year of Mission in innovative ways even during this pandemic situation. Taking into consideration the protocols of pandemic period, we have planned several mission focused events to be followed during this Year of Mission.

Our vocation to religious life is primarily a vocation to be a missionary to live and proclaim the Good News. Our patron and founder were great missionaries of their time and they expect us to emulate them. I call upon every community, every confrere to interiorize the demands of a true missionary in the footsteps of our Patron and our Founder. Whatever ministry we are doing, let our focus be missionary. In this Year of Mission, let our Malawi Mission in Africa be also our focus. Let Mary Mother of Compassion, our patroness, Saint Francis De Sales, our patron and Fr.Peter Mermier, our founder accompany us in our journey as missionaries.

9. Ordination Celebration – 2021

It was indeed a remarkable event for South East India Province, as two of our deacons, namely Dns. A.Infant Jesus and K. Nirmal Kumar were ordained as priests on 30.04.2021 by Most Rt. Rev. Susai Manickam, DD., STD, the Bishop Emeritus of Sivagangai.“Bloom where you are planted” was the motto, chosen by the deacons, towards which the entire ceremony was animated systematically in a meaningful manner. Though we are in the pandemic situation, the provincial and his administration had taken a daring step to make it possible the long awaited dream of the deacons’ ordination. Considering the lock down all around and the seriousness of the pandemic situation, the event was organized with minimum invitees both from our MSFS family and also from the deacons family. Soon after the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration, the newly ordained priests were felicitated, and on behalf of the new priests; Fr. K. Nirmal Kumar thanked the Bishop, the Provincial, all the fathers, family members, especially the Provincial house community for the meticulous planning in organizing the whole event. Rev. Fr. K. Ignacimuthu, the Provincial congratulated the newly ordained priests for their whole hearted willingness to be priests forever, especially in the Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales. We thank God for his Grace and Blessings.

Fr. A. Infant Jesus
