S.F.S. Matriculation School, Perumbakkam is a new venture in the field of education to the rural population of the Villupuram District. It is God’s plan that we ventured into a place where people are predominantly Hindus. The land was purchased by Fr. F. Emmanuel in 2002, when Rev. Fr. Mani Panthalany was the Provincial of our mother Province Visakhapatnam. For seven years, no specific work was undertaken. As per the decision and approval of the provincial administration, the foundation-stone for the new school was blessed and laid by Rev. Fr. Philomin Doss, the V.F. of Villupuram Vicariate and Rev. Fr. A. Lawrence, the Provincial respectivelyon 4 January 2009. The administration entrusted the task of constructing ten class rooms to Fr. D. Johnson Sahayaraj, the then parish priest of Adanur.

Fr. M. Rayappan John Britto was appointed as the first Correspondent and Principal of the school in May 2009. On 8 June, the academic programmes were formally inaugurated with two teachers and 17 students on the roll in the presence of the MSFS Fathers working in the Archdiocese of Pondicherry-Cuddalore. A van (Mahendra Tourister) was provided to transport students. The school obtained its Opening Order on 7 January 2011 and subsequently the Recognition on 4 August 2011 on the Feast of John Maria Vianney. In 2011, a bus was provided for transporting the children. Right now, we have 7 trained teachers, 8 Non-Teaching staff and 248 students on the roll from LKG to III std.

Initially,Fr. M. Rayappan was asked to have his residence at Holy Trinity Parish, Adanur and look after the school, extending his ministry to the parish. Since the center is 17 km away from the parish, he had to go by bike everyday carrying the lunch with him. This practice was continued from 01 June 2009 to 30 June 2012. Later, the provincial administration had given the necessary permission to form a community in the school premises itself. A regent is appointed this year as part of the community. Staying in the school, we do extend our pastoral ministry to St. Joseph’s Parish, Thely (Diocesan Parish) and its substation, Kanai. We need to get hold of these people as they are the only Catholics of this locality and all the more, their students are studying in our school. The land is located by the state Highway towards Thirukovillur. We have 5 acres and 61 cents. Undoubtedly, this center will be a beaconof hope amidst other religious people.
